During PICSI, sperm that have naturally developed are collected in a specific plate coated in hyaluronic acid. The female reproductive tract contains hyaluronic acid, which is crucial for the development and selection of sperm. Doctors can improve the likelihood that the sperm they choose for injection into the egg will be the most developed and healthy by choosing sperm that have previously experienced natural selection.

By choosing the healthiest sperm, PICSI seeks to increase the likelihood of successful fertilization and embryo development.

Couples with poor sperm quality or those who have previously failed IVF rounds may find this to be especially helpful

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is a method used during PICSI to inject the chosen sperm into the egg alongside regular IVF operations. A single sperm is directly injected into the egg during ICSI to fertilize it.
